Il Geographic Research and Application Laboratory (GREAL) dell’Università Europea di Roma informa che martedì 24 febbraio 2026 dalle ore 9:00 alle 13:00 si terrà online il webinar internazionale Towards the Centenary of the “Norge” Polar Expedition. A pochi giorni dall’Arctic Circle Forum (Roma, 3-4 marzo 2026) e dall’ormai prossima ricorrenza del centenario del primo volo transpolare (aprile-maggio 1926), il webinar ha l’obiettivo di indagare una selezione di questioni nodali legate alla storica impresa e alla sua memoria. La prima sessione dell’evento verterà su temi storico-politici quali, in breve, il rapporto tra aviazione ed esplorazione polare, le relazioni diplomatiche italo-norvegesi, il ruolo dell’Unione Sovietica e la ricerca di rotte aeree transpolari durante il periodo interbellico. La seconda sessione contemplerà interventi legati ad Umberto Nobile, a Roald Amundsen e al dirigibile “Norge” con particolare riguardo al ruolo della memoria della spedizione polare tra ieri e oggi. Il webinar, ad accesso libero e gratuito, è organizzato dal GREAL in collaborazione con il Centro Italiano per gli Studi Storico-Geografici, la Società Geografica Italiana, la casa museo di Roald Amundsen, il museo “Umberto Nobile” di Lauro, il progetto Norge100 e l’associazione PolarQuest.

The Geographic Research and Application Laboratory (GREAL) of the European University of Rome announces that on Tuesday 24 February 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., it will hold online, the international webinar Towards the Centenary of the “Norge” Polar Expedition. A few days before the Arctic Circle Forum (Rome, 3-4 March) and the upcoming centenary of the first transpolar flight (April-May 1926), the webinar aims to investigate a selection of key issues related to the historic feat and its memory. The first session of the event will focus on historical and political topics such as the relationship between aviation and polar exploration, diplomatic relations between Italy and Norway, the role of the Soviet Union, and the search for transpolar air routes during the 1920s and 1930s period. The second session will include presentations related to Umberto Nobile, Roald Amundsen, and the airship “Norge”, with particular regard to the role of the memory of the polar expedition between yesterday and today. The webinar, which is free and open to the public, is organised in collaboration with the Italian Centre for Historical and Geographical Studies, the Italian Geographical Society, the “Roald Amundsen” House Museum, the “Umberto Nobile” Museum in Lauro, the Norge100 project and the PolarQuest association.
