Abstract: This paper analyzes the ways in which Italian intellectuals recounted in the postwar period their own and Italy’s experience of fascism, comparing these accounts with a historical reconstruction of those experiences. The talk will focus especially on the cases of the historian Federico Chabod (1901-1960) and of the jurist Piero Calamandrei (1889-1956)
